Embryo Donation

Embryo donation or embryo adoption is an alternative to egg donation in some couples, especially those in whom the male partner cannot provide viable sperm in addition to the female partner having issue with ovaries.

In such case a donor woman provides the eggs (ova, oocytes) and a male donor provides the sperm and embryos are formed. The embryos thus formed are transferred inside the uterus (womb) of the patient.

Embryo donation sometimes also refers to the donation of embryos remaining after one couple’s IVF treatments have been completed, to another individual or couple, followed by the placement of those embryos into the recipient woman’s uterus, to facilitate pregnancy and childbirth.
