Causes of infertility in women are
Ovulation disorders are the most common causes of infertility in women, followed by complications in uterus and fallopian tubes
- Ovulation disorders – Ovulation is a monthly cycle involving release of an egg. In case of infertility , either the woman does not release eggs or doent do it during the ovulation cycle period. Ovulation disorders can be due to:
- Poor egg quality – eggs that are damaged or develop genetic abnormalities cannot sustain a pregnancy.
- PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)
- Hyperprolactinemia – if prolactin levels are high even though the woman is not breastfeeding, it may affect ovulation and fertility.
- Hyperthyroidism -Overactive thyroid gland
- Hypothyroidism -Underactive thyroid gland
- Premature ovarian failure – the woman’s ovaries stop working by the age of Forty.
- Some chronic conditions or consistent use of some medications
- Complications in the uterus or fallopian tubes– Other causes of female infertility include blocked fallopian tubes , birth defects or anamolies of the uterus, and uterine fibroids ( which can cause repeated miscarriages); and ageing. Fallopian tube and Uterus issues can arise due to –
- Damaged fallopian tubes or shortening of cervix due to Surgery
- Uterine fibroids
- Endometriosis – cells that are normally found within the lining of the uterus start growing elsewhere in the body.
