Laser assisted hatching or LAH is a ART technique in which a small artificial hole is made in the zona of an embryo using a laser (hence name Laser Assisted Hatching). It is found that embryo can hatch better through this hole and it increases the chance of the embryo implanting.
Zona is the soft outer shell of human embryo. When it is five or six days old it is at the phase known as a blastocyst and it requires to hatch out of the zona. When the embryo escape out of the zona it able to insert into the womb lining and the pregnancy results. If the embryo does not hatch a pregnancy cannot happen.
